MikuDance: When Code Meets Music

CreativeFun

Not every project needs to be serious. MikuDance exists because I love anime, rhythm games, and the question: what would it take to build that in a browser?

Inspired by Hatsune Miku and the Magical Mirai programming contest format, MikuDance is a side-scrolling, DDR-style rhythm game built with Vite and PixiJS. The twist is the TextAlive App API, which analyzes lyrics and music so the gameplay stays synchronized with beat, chords, and vocals.

Building it was a crash course in real-time rendering, audio timing, and the kind of polish that makes a game feel alive instead of merely functional.

Projects like this remind me why I started coding in the first place. The portfolio pieces pay the bills, but the weird, joyful experiments keep the spark alive.
